Green Building

LEEDing the way and practicing what we teach.

The Knoch Corporation is one of only a handful of general contractors in Ohio that is a member of the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) and employs LEED accredited staff. We are active in not only constructing LEED, but educating others about the long-term benefits of going green.

What is Green Building?
“Green building” is a term used to describe design and construction practices that significantly reduce or eliminate the negative impact on the environment and occupants due to construction. It is addressed in five areas: sustainable site planning; water efficiency; energy efficiency and renewable energy; conservation of material and resources; and safe indoor environmental quality.

What are the Benefits of Going Green?
Depending on your passion, LEED has benefits for everyone, from improved air and water quality to decreasing operation costs and increasing asset value and worker productivity

Our Experience with Green Building
Being a member of the USGBC and supporting green building practices for the last several years, The Knoch Corporation decided to go green with a new office renovation project. The renovation of this existing three-story building allows Knoch to apply for LEED’s silver certification for commercial interiors. This is the first private project of its kind in Ohio.

 shower fixtures.
u Reduced its lighting power requirements by 35% with the upgrade to florescent fixtures, supplementing with
daylight, and proper spacing of lamp fixtures.
u Reduced building energy cost by 30% with a high efficiency HVAC system.
u Installed nearly all Energy Star rated equipment and appliances
u Reused or refurbished almost 75% of its office furniture and reused 10% of existing facilities materials such as
doors, ceiling tiles and wood studs.
u Used low VOC paints and adhesives and installed Green Guard Certified carpet.
u Used only wood trim and casework that were Forest Stewardship Council or FSC certified wood.
