What is 4-D and Building Information Modeling?
The 4-D modeling is a new and innovative technology for contractors, allowing construction schedules to be visualized using 3-D animation, adding the 4th dimension - time.

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is the development and use of the computer software model, using the 4 dimensions, to simulate the actual construction and operation of a facility.

What are the benefits of BIM?
There are many benefits to the owner when incorporating BIM in construction including:

    u The ability to identify potential problems;
    u The ability to visualize what is to be built in a simulated environment;
    u Fewer errors and corrections in the field;
    u Higher reliability of expected field conditions, allowing for opportunity to do more prefabrication of         materials offsite, which is usually a higher quality at a lower cost;
    u The ability to utilize more “what if” scenarios (i.e. various sequencing options, site logistics, hoisting         alternatives, cost, etc.);
    u The ability for the client to visualize the end result; and
    u Fewer callbacks, therefore lower warranty costs.

A 4-D modeler can be assigned to work with your team to incorporate your project into a 4-D model, allowing future use for scheduling and eliminating future conflicts from design into actual construction.
